As restrictions are easing across Victoria, we are excited to begin to regather as a church.

Throughout November, our Sunday services will stay online and continue to be livestreamed at 9am and available on demand.

We are also excited to begin to regather in person. There will be various opportunities for this onsite at Discovery Church including guided prayer walks, lifegroups and other small groups of up to 20 people outdoors, as well as larger/indoor gatherings for various groups of people across the life of our church. All of our gathering expressions will be in line with the Victorian Government Roadmap.

Above all, our focus in this season is on what unites us; the person and work of Jesus Christ. We would love for you to keep joining us as we pray and dream for the future that God has for us.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have put together the below Frequently Asked Questions to help answer any queries you may have as we begin to regather as a community over the coming weeks.

Please note that the measures we are taking as we regather are intended to be temporary while we seek to uphold government directives. These directives are subject to change and we will respond to such changes as required. Any dates quoted are indicative only, and may be subject to change.

We will be creating various spaces for people to gather onsite who are vaccinated, as well as those who are unvaccinated or do not wish to disclose their vaccination status, in line with current government directives. Due to these directives, the ways you will be able to gather onsite will look different in the short term based on your vaccination status/willingness to disclose.

Registration for all gatherings regardless of vaccination status will be really important in this time to manage density limits set by the government. When you register for an onsite gathering we will make it clear whether that particular gathering requires you to be vaccinated or not.

We are waiting for specific details from the Victorian Government, but we expect that you will need to use Services Victoria’s QR code that will confirm your vaccination status when checking in onsite.

Those who are unvaccinated or do not wish to disclose their vaccination status are able to meet outdoors in groups of 20 and therefore will not be required to show their vaccination status.

We are still waiting on specific details from the Victorian Government, but our current understanding is that if you have a medical exemption you will be treated as if you are vaccinated for the purposes of attending gatherings restricted to vaccinated people.

Under current government directives, if you are permitted to volunteer at Discovery Church, Discovery Community Care or Treasure Corner Op Shop you will need to be vaccinated and we will provide you with information around the requirements for confirming this status. There are opportunities to volunteer offsite across the life of our church for those who are unvaccinated or do not wish to disclose their vaccination status.

Firstly, celebration and joy that we can gather together onsite again! Secondly, there will be a number of measures in place to ensure our gatherings are Covid-safe. These will include:

  • Pre-registering for all events via our website or Everyday Faith App.
  • Checking in using the Services Victoria QR code.
  • Wearing masks.
  • Social distancing.
  • Sanitiser made available around our building/property.
  • Sanitising spaces in between groups gathering.
  • Limits on the number of people indoors and outdoors in line with density limits.

Our decision to abide by government directives requiring people to be vaccinated to attend larger/indoor gatherings is aimed at protecting the most vulnerable people in our community. Additionally, the above measures along with our Covid-safe plan are aimed at reducing the spread of Covid-19 as far as possible.

We are still waiting on specific details from the Victorian Government, but our current understanding is that children under the age of 16 will not be required to be vaccinated for gatherings restricted to vaccinated people. We are still awaiting clarification on those aged 16-17.

Lifegroups and One Heart Homes for adults can begin to gather in person from late October.

Lifegroups and One Heart Homes meeting offsite will need to follow the government directives in relation to social gatherings:

  • From 22nd October, up to 10 people per day can gather in homes and 15 people can gather outdoors.
  • From 5th November, additionally 30 fully vaccinated people can meet outdoors.

We will be inviting Lifegroups and One Heart Homes to meet onsite at Discovery Church from late October, so keep an eye out for what days and times will be available via our website and Everyday Faith app, or by speaking to the Compass team. These groups will need to follow the government directives in relation to religious gatherings:

  • From 26th October, up to 150 fully vaccinated people can gather indoors, or 20 people of unknown vaccination status can meet outdoors.

For specific queries or to discuss your group meeting onsite, please reach out to the leaders of your group or the Compass team via Reception: 03 9736 2323 or reception@discoverychurch.com.au.

The above information applies to adult Lifegroups; further information will be provided to those involved in i60 Lifegroups.

We recognise this is an emotional and divisive time for many people across our nation. Our desire at Discovery Church is for unity and to help everyone who calls Discovery Church home find a place of belonging in the safest way possible, including protecting the most vulnerable in our community. Our unity is based around the person and work of Jesus Christ, and we encourage you to join us in our focus on the vision God has for the future of Discovery Church.

We are choosing to create spaces to gather for both those vaccinated and those who are unvaccinated or of unknown status to provide opportunities for every heart to gather in some capacity. We realise that offering these different spaces are not the same as gathering all together, but until we can do so in a way that honours our government’s directives and protects those who are most vulnerable in our community, we want to keep creating places of belonging and connection however we can.

Please call reception on 03 9736 2323 between 9am-3pm, Monday – Thursday and our team will be really happy to help you register.

We strongly encourage you to pre-register as there will be limits on the number of people permitted at events (due to density limits set by the government) and we would not want you to miss out. If you haven’t registered and there are still available spaces on the day, you will be able to register on the spot (in line with government directives), but please be aware that we can’t guarantee this and we may need to look at an alternative gathering time for you.

With Victoria progressively opening up over the next few months, it is possible that our facility may become an exposure site due to a Covid-positive case. Should this happen, we will follow our Covid-safe plan for notifying health authorities and those who may have attended our facility at the same time. We will also ensure our facility is deep-cleaned before reopening. Depending on the circumstances, it may require us to suspend in-person gatherings and remain in an online capacity for a short time.
