How is it with your soul… really?

06/11/2022 - Jody Destry

Our spiritual health and well-being matters to God.

He is the author and image of wholeness, health and well-being.

Being made in God’s image means we have been created for that same wholeness, wellness and health.

We don’t just get and stay spiritually healthy without having some intentional rhythms and practices in place in our lives to sustain our spiritual health and wellbeing.

Any good Doctor will tell you that the prescription for good physical health is a healthy diet, regular exercise and enough rest. The same is true for our spiritual health.

Today we’re asking 3 questions:

  1. What does the bible say about spiritual health and wellbeing?
  2. What does being spiritually healthy look and feel like?
  3. How is your spiritual health right now? (How is it with you soul? Really??)

Key Scriptures:

Prov 4:20-23

1 Tim 4:8-10

3 John 2

Jer 29:11

2. What does being spiritually healthy look and feel like?

Spiritual health questions:

Is my love for God increasing or decreasing? (Matt 22:37)

Is my love for God evident to others? (John 13:35)

Is my love for others increasing or decreasing? (Matt 22:29)

Are the patterns of sin in my life increasing or decreasing? (Heb 12:1)

Are my life choices honouring or dishonouring God? (1 Cor 10:31, Eph 4:1)

Is my generosity towards God & others increasing or decreasing? (Pro 11:25)

Are the fruits of the Spirit more or less evident in my life than this time last year? (Gal 5:22-23)

Am I growing in my ability to forgive others who have wronged me? (Eph 4:32)

Is my love and acceptance of myself increasing or decreasing? (Ps 139:14)

Is my passion to serve Jesus with my gifts increasing or decreasing? (Rom 12:11)

Is my willingness to be open and accountable to others increasing or decreasing? (Jms 5:16)

Am I growing in my understanding of God’s Word in a way that is evident in my life? (2 Pt 3:18)

Do I have spiritual rhythms and disciplines in place that help me connect deeply and often with God? (Lk 5:16, Jms 4:8)

3. How is your spiritual health right now?

  1. Take some time this week to reflect on those spiritual health questions – take a photo of the slide. Talk about it at home, with a friend, with your LG.
  2. Ask one another – How is it with your soul?
  3. Invite God to lead you towards greater spiritual health and wholeness over this coming month as we hold space to explore this together.
