Presence Devotion #24

-

Do Not Give Up

Matt Destry – Communications Pastor

Scripture

Luke 18:1

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.

Insight

Jesus encourages us to pray, because it brings us into contact with the unchanging, all-powerful, all-knowing God of the universe, who loves, cares and values each one of us. In that place of persistent prayer, we find that the things we are praying for are not always answered in our way or time. Instead, we are brought into an experience of grace and love in Jesus himself. He may not always give us what we want, but He gives us what we most desperately need: His presence.

So,

When you read about terrible things in the Newspaper: always pray and do not give up.

When you get suddenly retrenched from your job: always pray and do not give up.

When you get a call from a relative bearing bad news: always pray and do not give up.

When your marriage is tough and the kids are driving you crazy: always pray and do not give up.

When you really need rain for the business: always pray and do not give up.

When you’re not sure what life direction to take: always pray and do not give up.

When you’re feeling left out: always pray and do not give up.

When you’re lonely: always pray and do not give up.

When you’re afraid: always pray and do not give up.

In all circumstances: always pray and do not give up.
