The Life of Discipleship
Like a breath.
Scripture : Mark 3:14 “He appointed twelve – designating them apostles – that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach…”
When Jesus called the 12 disciples to himself, Mark 3 tells us it was for two reasons: to be with him, and to go out and preach. Herein lies the privilege and responsibility of discipleship. It is a privilege because the disciples get access to and relationship with the creator and Saviour of the world. It is a responsibility because they must then reflect Him and act on His behalf in His world.
We are introduced to the binary action of discipleship, the in/out of closeness with Jesus and action for him, which are so interlinked that they often happen at the same time. It is truly like breathing.
As we explore together the life of discipleship, the thing that marks this stage and defines it for us is our closeness to Jesus. We cling to Him, acknowledge and experience his saving power, and in so doing, we become ambassadors – for “we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20).
Discussion questions (getting unstuck)
1/ How are you experiencing the grace of God in your own life right now?
2/ How is the love and grace of God being extended through you to others?
3/ How is your unique contribution to the church community becoming clearer?
