The Less Blessed Way

21/12/2025 - Zeke Murley

We talk a lot about Jesus at Christmas — Saviour, Lord, King yet He comes to us as a baby.

Sometimes receiving Jesus feels awkward, unfamiliar, even uncomfortable.

So how do we receive Him again this Christmas?

We learn by looking at what Jesus received at His birth.

Three gifts.

Three declarations.

Gold — A King

Gold was a gift for a king.

Jesus was born ruling bringing peace, justice, and righteousness.

  • Gold at the manger whispered what the resurrection would later shout.
  • Evil has a voice for a season; Jesus has the verdict for eternity.

You can receive Jesus as your King — and He is a good one.

Frankincense — A Priest

Frankincense was a gift for a priest — a bridge builder between God and humanity.

Every religion builds a ladder.

Jesus announces a bridge.

  • He didn’t show us the way, He became the way.
  • Religion creates distance; Jesus closes it.

The church isn’t a group who figured it out it’s a group who chose to walk the bridge Jesus freely built.

One category of people: sinners in need of a Saviour.

Myrrh — A Sacrifice

Myrrh was used for burial.

An unsettling gift — because it pointed to death.

  • The shadow of the cross fell across the manger.
  • Jesus wasn’t murdered, He chose to die and it was the plan all along.

There is no Christmas without Easter.

He was born to take our place.

The Invitation

Wrapped in this gift is everything we need:

  • A King who reigns
  • A Priest who reconciles
  • A Saviour who redeems

Would you choose the less-blessed way this Christmas and receive Jesus again?

No labels. No conditions. Just a free gift — given by God.
