The Will To Wait
The Better Has Come
- Jesus finishes preparing His disciples
- Returns to the Father
- Sends the Helper — the Holy Spirit
📖 John 16:7 — “It is to your advantage that I go away…”
The Spirit is not a downgrade. He is the upgrade.
The Tension of the Promise
The Spirit is:
- Helper
- Comforter
- Advocate
But his first thing will do is:
- Convict
This is not a contradiction, it is clarity.
Comfort is not the absence of conviction. True comfort is conviction that leads you into truth.
The Spirit does not comfort you by helping you make peace with sin He comforts you by refusing to let sin make peace with you
The Issue of Truth
- Not personal truth
- Not cultural truth
- Not shifting truth
Objective. Eternal. Found in Christ alone
- Conviction → “Judgment”
- Truth → “Opinion”
- Repentance → “Intolerance”
People don’t want a Saviour, they want validation
📖 Jeremiah 17:9 — the heart is deceitful
We don’t need affirmation
We need transformation
The Bible affirms one: Jesus
The First Act of the Church
Not:
- Preaching
- Miracles
- Evangelism
The first act was submission
1 — DO NOT
“Do not depart from Jerusalem”
Before power → obedience
God doesn’t just tell you what to do
He tells you what not to do
Some of us ask: “What should I do?” But never ask: “What should I stop?”
The greatest limitation to the Spirit’s work might be the yes God never asked for.
Examples:
- Husbands → yes to work, no to fatherhood
- Mums → yes to everything, no to presence with God
- Young adults → yes to every moment, no to God
- Elderly → retired from work… and calling
Your yes to:
- Busyness
- Comfort
- Distraction
- Wrong relationships
Has become your no to God
2 — WAIT
📖 Acts 1:12–14 — They returned and prayed
They didn’t launch. They lingered
Waiting is not passive — it is preparation
Before the Church moved in power.
It learned to wait in prayer.
The Mark of a Church
“You can tell how popular a church is by Sunday attendance
You can tell how popular the pastor is by Sunday night
But you can tell how popular Jesus is by the prayer meeting”
— Leonard Ravenhill
Don’t move ahead of the promise . Don’t build without the Spirit . Don’t act without obedience
Wait… and be filled
